Album News Weekly: Friday, 28th June

This week sees a huge amount of new music announcements! Arctic Monkeys, Dead Letter Circus, Switchfoot, Big Scary, Castlecomer and MGMT all have new releases coming your way shortly...

SATYRICON

Satyricon are set to release their self-titled album on September 6 via Roadrunner Records. Satyricon was produced by Satyr and recorded in their native Norway, and mixed by Adam Kasper.

RÜFÜS

The highly anticipated debut album from RÜFÜS has been announced for release on 9th August this year. ‘Desert Night’ is the second single from the album.

MARGARET ROADKNIGHT

Festival Records and WMA are presenting Decade ’75 – ‘84’, a 26 track collection of original recordings from Margret RoadKnight. The collection will be released on July 19th, with Margret playing a handful of shows in July.

SWITCHFOOT

Grammy-award winning band Switchfoot have announced their ninth studio album, titled Fading West, to be released this October on Atlantic Records/Word. An 80-minute feature film, also titled Fading West will be the opening act for their US tour beginning September 20th, and you can check out the film trailer below. The film follows the band on their 2012 World tour.

CASTLECOMER

Sydney band Castlecomer have announced their highly anticipated second EP Lone Survivor, set for release on 12th July through Green Distribution. It follows their first EP Danny’s Den, and will support the new release with an EP tour across the country.

NO AGE

No Age are set to release their album An Object this 16th August on Sub Pop through Inertia. The eleven tracks on the LP were produced by the duo themselves.

BROTHERTIGER

Future Splendours is the new ten-track album from Brothertiger, the follow up to his debut Golden Year. It’s set for release on September 24, but the lead single from the album ‘In Mind’ is out now.

POWDER MONKEYS

Fuse and Freeform Patterns have announced the deluxe reissue of the Powder Monkeys’ debut album of 1993, Smashed On a Knee. To be released on Friday July 12th, it’s the first of a series of deluxe reissues from the band.

MACHINEDRUM

Machinedrum will release second album Vapor City on 20th September on Ninja Tune via Inertia. The new single from the album is ‘Eyesdontlie’.

KREATOR

Kreator have posted their first trailer for their upcoming live DVD release Dying Alive, with a variety of release dates from August 30 around the world. It features a show in the band’s home country, Germany, in late 2012.

MAVIS STAPLES

One True Vine is the new album from Mavis Staples, released today via Anti-. It’s her second collaboration with producer Jeff Tweedy.

ASHES OF ARES

Ashes of Ares is a new band comprised of ex-Iced Earth and ex-Nevermore members. They’ve released their first studio update for the band’s upcoming debut album, set for release later this year.

CALL ME ANYTHING

Call Me Anything have just finished recording their brand new album, and have released a behind the scenes video into the making of the album.

MGMT

MGMT are back with their self-titled third studio album, set for release on September 13th through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. ‘Your Life Is a Lie’ is the first music video to be released.

CHIMAIRA

Heavy music band Chimaira will release their new album Crown of Phantoms on August 2 on 3Wise Records in AUS/NZ. ‘No Mercy’ comes from the new album, check out the video below.

DAN PARSONS

The self-title second album from Dan Parsons is due for release on Friday 26th July through MGM. He’ll be touring in late July and early August in support of the release.

THE DARLING DOWNS

In The Days When the World was Wide is the first release from The Darling Downs in six years. It’s set for release on 27th July through FUSE. ‘Saved’ is the first single from the new album.

ARCEYE

‘At First Light’ is the second full-length album from Arceye, the follow-up to their debut The Divide Between Chaos & Order. The new album will be released on August 7th via Hostile media.

HANDS LIKE HOUSES

Hands Like Houses will release their new album Unimagine on 19th July via Rise Records after their debut album Ground Dweller. The first single from the record is ‘Introduced Species’.

SCAR THE MARTYR

Slipknot’s drummer Joey Jordison has just unveiled his new project, Scar The Martyr, will an as-yet-untitled debut album on its way later this year via Roadrunner Records.

DELOREAN

Delorean have announced the release of their new album Apar on September 6th through True Panther Sounds/Remote Control. It’s the follow up to the band’s 2010 record Subiza. The lead track from the album, ‘Spirit’ is available for streaming now.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

The Devil Wears Prada are set to release their as-yet-untitled new album on September 13 via Roadrunner Records. The album follows their breakthrough 2011 record Death Throne, with the band touring Australia in July.

SAM BUCKINGHAM

I’m a Bird is the latest independent offering from Sam Buckingham, to be released on July 19. It follows her 2012 EP Fragile Heart. ‘Follow You’ is the lead single from the new album.

NIGHT RIOTS

The new EP from Night Riots (formerly PK), Young Lore, will be released on July 30th. ‘Spiders’ is from the new release.

STARS ON 33

This is Love is the first studio album from Stars On 33, to be released on 8th July 2013 on Work It Baby Records and you can have a little sneak peak listen below!

PORTNOY, SHEEHAN, MACALPINE, SHERINAN

Supergroup Portnoy, Sheehan, MacAlpine, Sherinan (PSMS) will release Live in Tokyo on September 6 on DVD and Blu Ray. The live performance from late last year in Tokyo showcases a wide range of instrumental performances from each band member.

THE COMMUNITY CHEST

Top of The Hour is the new full-length album from The Community Chest. It will be released digitally worldwide on Friday July 12, and will also be available as a limited edition, hand numbered 12” vinyl pressing. ‘Get Into The Rocket’ is the lead single from the album.

JOHN LEGEND

John Legend’s new album Love In the Future will be available from September 6th though Sony Music Entertainment Australia. ‘Made to Love’ is the second single released from the album.

NEWSTED

Newsted have just announced their debut full length album Heavy Metal Music, due for release on 2nd August 2013 through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. The album follows the Metal EP. ‘Heroic Dose’ is a brand new track from the album.

BUDDY GUY

Buddy Guy will release his new studio album Rhythm & Blues on August 2 through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. The double-disc release will feature artists such as Kid Rock, Keith Urban and Beth Hart. This is the follow up to his 2010 Grammy award-winning album Living Proof.

WHITLEY

Whitley aka Lawrence Greenwood, is back with his new album Even The Stars Are a Mess, to be released on 5th July. The album follows on from his two previous releases, Go Forth, Find Mammoth and The Submarine. The new single ‘My Heart Is Not a Machine’ will emerge on Monday 24th June.

NEKO CASE

The first album to be released by Neko Case in four years is set for release on September 6th. The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You will be released through Anti- with ‘Man’ as the first single from the album.

CHRIS SOUTHERN

Chris Southern has announced his debut album Joyhouse Love. The album launch tour will hit The Loft on the Gold Coast on 29th June, and 9th July at The Hideaway.

THE JCQ

British band The JCQ (formerly The James Cleaver Quintet) have just released their sophomore album Mechanical Young, a follow up to their debut album That was Then, This Is Now. ‘Ghosts Diffuse’ is the first taste of the album.

MUSHROOM CLASSICS

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Australia lable Mushroom Records, Warner Music Australia are releasing new editions of classic Mushroo albums, to be rolled out over the next year. July 5th will see Chain’s The History of Chain, Madder Lake’s The Best of Madder Lake and Sid Rumpo’s First Offense released, all remastered with bonus tracks.

BIG SCARY

The first Australian act to sign with US label Barsuk Records, Big Scary will release their new album Not Art this Friday 28th June. The album will be released in Australia/NZ through Pieater/Intertia, with the album being released on 17th September this year in North/South America.

MOSS OF MOONLIGHT

Winterwheel is the latest four track EP from Moss of Moonlight, and was released on June 21st.

POST-ECHO

On June 26th, the second installment of Post-Echo’s five-part film series, Passage: Part II, will be released. It features original music from a variety of Post-Echo artists and collaborators including Cancellieri, Koda and Matthew Lee Cothran. You can watch the first installment below.

I’LLS

I’lls have announced the release of their new EP A Warm Reception, available at their Bandcamp for a ‘name your price’ download. The EP follows their debut EP Thread from 2011, with EP launches in Sydney and Melbourne this July.

CALIFONE

Califone have announced their new album Stitches will be released on September 2nd on Dead Oceans in the UK. The title track of the album is out now.

PORCHES

Porches will release their full-length album Slow Dance in the Cosmos on August 27th via Exploding in Sound Records. ‘Franklin the Flirt’ is a recently-released track from the album.

MELODY POOL

The Hurting Scene is the crowd-funded album from Melody Pool. It’s set for release on July 5 this year.

[ówt krì]

[ówt krì] will release their album The New Seed on June 24th through Alrealon Musique.

CHVRCHES

Chvrches have announced their debut album The Bone of What You Believe, to be released in Australia on 20th September via Liberator Music/Goodbye Records. The album will feature the current single ‘Gun’, check out the video below. In the lead up to the album, Gun EP will be released on 15th July, available as a digital bundle, coming shortly after the Recover EP

EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROES

The third self-titled album from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes is set for release in Australia and New Zealand on July 26th via Create/Control. ‘Better Days’ is the first single to be released.

SARA STORER

Lovegrass is the new album from Sara Storer, set for release on August 23 through ABC Music/Universal Music Australia. The first single and title track of the album, ‘Lovegrass’ is out now.

DEAD LETTER CIRCUS

Dead Letter Circus’ second album The Catalyst Fire will be released on Friday 9 August, following their debut album This Is The Warning in 2010. The lead single ‘Lodestar’ will be released on Thursday 4 July.

ARTIC MONKEYS

Arctic Monkey will release their fifth album, AM, on Friday 6 September. ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ is the first single from the new release, check out the video below.

NORMA JEAN

The sixth studio album from Norma Jean, Wrongdoers, will be released through Razor & Tie/Shock Records on August 9 in Australia and New Zealand. The first track ‘If You Got It At Five, You Got It At Fifty’ premiered last week.

GESAFFELSTEIN

DJ/Producer Gesaffelsteing has released the lead single and video, ‘Pursuit’ from his debut LP due for release later this year. Check out the vid below.

THE CANNANES

Howling At All Hours is the first release from The Cannanes in over ten years, to be released on Chapter Music on July 5.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA

From Death to Destiny is the new full-length album from Asking Alexandria, set for release on September 9 through Sumerian Records. ‘The Death of Me’ is the first single from the new album.

BEN SALTER

Ben Salter will release his European Vacation EP this July 12, with a national tour kicking off on the same day. Lead single ‘Semi Pro Gamer’ is out now.

ZEBRAHEAD

Zebrahead are set to release a new album Call All Your Friends, with the Australian release on 16 August through 3Wise/Sony Music. It will be the band’s tenth studio album, check out the sneak peak below.

LEON ROUSSEAU

Fat Bastard is the new album from French Leon Rousseau, released through Ruby Music. Leon played every instrument on the album, and recorded at his home studio in France.

THE CIVIL WARS

The Civil Wars will have their sophomore self-titled album out on August 5 through Sensibility Music/Columbia Records. It’s the follow up to the band’s debut Barton Hollow. ‘The One That Got Away’ is the first single from the new release.
